Now Instant is pleased to present a single-channel presentation of American Artist’s, Yannis Window, a series of artist moving image works that draw inspiration from science fiction author Octavia E. Butler’s (b. 1947, Pasadena, CA) novels and life, and the lives of other African-diasporic people who formed and were formed by the adjoining communities of Altadena and Pasadena, California, with a conversation between American Artist and Corina Copp.
The trilogy, consisting of The Arroyo Seco (2022), Christopher Donner (2024), and Alicia Catalina Godinez Leal (2024), takes the form of a 1990s public access documentary, a presidential campaign video, and news footage referring to the real and imagined environment of Altadena and characters from Octavia Butler's 1993 novel, Parable of the Sower.
