In leading to his included work at the Hammer’s Made in L.A. 2025, Mike Stoltz presents BLOW UP/BLOW DOWN; a monthly screening series of films that have influenced his practice. The third installment of Stoltz's series features James Bridges' 1984 sunshine noir, Mike's Murder.

"Mike's Murder gets the plotline out of the way with the title and instead this underseen 80s thriller fills the run time with atmospherics of a lonely Los Angeles divided by class and ambitions (with many notable locations used as backdrops).

A bank teller handles other peoples' money all day. A tennis instructor deals drugs on the side to get by. Life is experienced through the windshield of a car. Communication happens from telephone to telephone without physical connection. People pose for their own cameras while hidden lenses record their images. The human body mimics natural disasters."
