On the occasion of the Los Angeles premiere of 4,000 Dollars, Now Instant and New Theater Hollywood co-present an evening of films, curated by playwright Georgica Pettus and filmmaker Alex Huggins. From re-enactments, to prank calls, to pageant shows, the films are linked by a theatrical sensibility. The stage—sometimes literal and sometimes implied—separates the entertainer from the entertained. In film, unlike in theater, the fact that something is being staged is not always evident to everyone involved.
