Black Revivalist joins Now Instant for a night of horror and erotic thrillers spotlighting supernatural Black women from the early 2000s. Jean-Pierre Bekolo’s The Bloodettes (2005), referred to as the first African science fiction film, will screen alongside Steve Lustgarten’s Vampz (2004).
Please note: A brief intermission will take place between films.
The Bloodettes
Set in the year 2025, The Bloodettes follows best friends Majolie and Chouchou, two sex workers navigating a dystopian Cameroon. After accidentally killing a powerful politician during sex, they must find a way to dispose of his body. They turn the moment into an opportunity to transform both their own lives and the future of the country through a secret ancestral pre-colonial ritual called “mevoungou.”
Vampz
Vampz follows Lillith, Cleo, and Delilah, a trio of vampiresses in Downtown Los Angeles who pose as masseuses at a 24-hour massage parlor, luring unsuspecting men as their victims. When Keith, a violent cop investigating the murders of these men, drives his wife Eve away, she ends up joining the trio.
